| VH1 sucks. They need to stop taking great bands and exploiting the hell out of them. I'm calling it "The Fray Syndrome."
Augustana had better not catch it.

| it is my FAVORITE kind of day outside....fall-ish, chilly, dark, windy....i love it. i think a good ominous fall day puts me in an even better mood than a sunny summer day. it's so much more dramatic.
some musings....
-st. louis' largest export seems to be rappers. why, then, does st. louis not have an nba team? don't all rappers want to be basketball stars? i think there are enough rappers here to form an nba team consisting entirely of half-witted musicians.
-on a related note, it seems to be impossible to live here and not like rap.
-the sweater dress is my favorite thing ever. might even be up there with the ballet flat. there might be a chance for me to be partially warm this winter, after all.
-the forearm stand is now my bitch. oh yeah.
-i've been taking dunham technique classes. i'm convinced that i'll forever look like an idiot doing it, but it's lots of fun....a mixture between modern technique and afro-cuban dance.
-this weekend i'm taking a seminar on "exploring backbends." something tells me that i'm never going to want to explore a backbend again after saturday.
-i've come to the conclusion that everyone in the human resources program at school is obnoxious. maybe it's just me, maybe it's just hr....but i don't get why they find themselves so damned funny.
-we're approaching the final two episodes of project runway, and i'm just not as excited as i should be. i've seen the designers' Fashion Week collections after some spoiler searches online, and i just can't get behind anyone 100%. i was rooting for Michael all along....but his collection totally sucked. jeffrey's was equally awful, but being the scum sucking bottom dweller that he is, it seems par for the course. karma's a bitch. it's gotta be either uli or laura, neither of whom i love, but whose collections were pretty appealing to me. i think i'm putting my money on laura. mandy? mo?
-our wireless doesn't work. well, it works for my roommate, but it doesn't work for me. i'm eternally frustrated with this. all i want is to get online....is that too much to ask? i'm this close to getting a geek squad guy out here....
-saw some good concerts recently....teitur with tobias froberg was awesome. HEM was absolutely amazing...if they come near you, go, go, go! SO good. saw matt nathanson this past weekend, too. good show, not-so-good venue. i can't see a concert with all of the lights on. things need to be dim. hopefully going to see Citizen Cope in a few weeks...pretty excited about that.
lots of things in the works right now, but nothing concrete so i won't spoil them. hope everyone is doing well....mo and pat, save me some christmas ale when i get home for thanksgiving!

| moving across the country all by yourself is hard. it's hard to leave behind friends and family and familiarity...but after doing so, i'm convinced that the hardest part awaits you when you arrive at your destination. That is....figuring out how to get around your new city home. prior to tonight i had a very short list of "places i can get to with confidence," including -my best friend's apartment -target -whole foods...i am so, so, so addicted. -the gas station -the mall -school -my yoga studio -the bar (i am able to get to most any bar with minimal assistance. i think i have direction towards booze. it's frightening.)
tonight my friend ryan rolled into the 'lou in a party bus with quite a few members of his extended family, coming to town to celebrate his sister's wedding on sunday. tonight everyone decided to go out downtown in a district called laclede's landing, which is right on the mississippi and immediately south of the arch. after some miscommunication (i thought they were in a completely different bar district) i realized that, if i wanted to see ryan, i'd have to drive to the landing unassisted. let me tell you.....i now know what lance armstrong felt like the first time he put on that yellow jersey. victory! i even got home with minimal distress....though, to be fair, i took careful note to mentally reverse the route while on my way there. I think (knock on wood) that i might finally be kicking my "no sense of direction" probem once and for good.
st. louis is great....i'm actually moving into a different apartment tomorrow because it seems as though i'm allergic to the current locale. it'd be nice to sleep through the night without a half dozen sneezing fits, so i'm looking forward to it. the new place is actually closer to school, too, which is going to be great.
another bit of exciting news....i'm typing this entry on my adorable new macbook. yes, i've joined the apple revolution with the rest of you all. i'm getting used to it and i think i'll like it. :) i'm simultaneously enthralled with the cuteness of the macbook and the wonder of wireless. call me behind the times...but there's something to be said for lying down on the couch or in bed and still being able to type. there's potential for a whole new dimension of multitasking in my life.
in addition to the school schedule i'm also taking pilates teacher training courses here. that means anywhere between 10 and 18 classes per week, some of which are done on the reformer or cadillac. i haven't been this sore in a long time, but it's a great feeling. i'm hoping i get used to it soon....two weeks should do the trick, i think. it's great to learn new things, though, and it's definitely caused me to pay more attention to my sleep schedule. i'm also taking yoga there and have started experimenting with some fourth, fifth, and sixth series balances. they make me feel like a pretzel...well, a whole wheat, unsalted, honey-sweetend pretzel, but a pretzel nonetheless.
and because i feel obliged to mention it....everyone check out the monterey bay aquarium's website. today they put on display the second great white to ever exist successfully in captivity. there's a great webcam that plays goofy ambient music to check out....definitely go take a look. it's really incredible.
i'll post some photos soon when i get my digital camera. until then, use your imaginations. i miss you all...there's a futon in case anyone breezes through the gateway city soon! | | |
| that's pretty much it. more to come.
